In the cup
The orange-yellow liquor is bold and smooth, with a deep fruity-floral aroma.
Its Fo Shou Yun character is a soft, long-lasting fragrance reminiscent of citron or pear. The dry leaves are glossy, dark green and tightly curled.
Leaf and craft
The red-sprouting Fo Shou variety grows on the Yongchun–Dehua border in Fujian. The spring harvest is picked in mid-April.
Strong tossing and controlled oxidation develop the aroma. A long, low-temperature charcoal bake in August completes the process.
First brew
In a gaiwan, use 7 g per 120 ml at 100°C. Start at 10 seconds and add 5–10 seconds per round.
For a thermos, the guidance is 8 g per 300–500 ml, steeped covered for at least 10 minutes.
